Start with a good quality latex-modified thinset. Use the flat edge of a notched trowel to push the thinset over and into the wire. Then reverse the trowel and use the “comb” side to rake the mortar over the wire in straight parallel lines. Work in small areas. Here’s a trowel we recommend.
