The thermostat does not seem to be doing anything

  1. Check to make sure that there is power supplied to the thermostat.
  2. Check the circuit breaker and try resetting the breaker.
  3. Measure the “Line side” voltage coming from the breaker panel at the control and test from “L1” to “L2.”
    • Check all connections between the breaker and the control. Test the voltage at each connection starting at the breaker panel and proceeding toward the control.
      • A 120-volt floor warming system has black and white power leads (with a ground wire).
      • A 240-volt floor warming system has black and blue power leads (with a ground wire).
  4. The wire connections may be incorrect. Refer to the wiring diagram on the back of the control. “Line side” wires connect to incoming power from the breaker panel, and “load side” wires connect to the floor warming system power leads.
    • If the control still shows no evidence of having power supplied to it when it has been proven that it is receiving the proper voltage, try replacing the control.

Control shows an error code on the display

Check the wire connections of the component that is indicated by the error code. Remove and reinstall that component if necessary.

Error 2:

If you are getting an “ER 2” code, the sensor wires may have too much exposed copper wire at the terminal connections to the control. This can allow bare sensor wires to touch.

  1. Turn off the power to the control at the breaker panel. Remove the sensor wires from terminals 1 and 2 and test the resistance with a digital ohmmeter set on the 20k Ω scale (20,000 ohms) as described in the installation manual.
    • If the sensor test shows it in range for the present floor temperature, trim the stripped ends to no more than 3/16″ long and reinstall. Turn the breaker back on.

Error 6:

If you are getting an “ER 6” code, it is an indication that the control became too warm internally. There are several possible reasons for triggering the ER 6 response.

  1. The floor warming system may be drawing more than 15 amps of current, which causes the control to get too warm internally.
    • Test the amp load on the control. Each SunTouch SunStat control is rated for 15 amps maximum, whether 120V or 240V. Any load above 15 amps needs to be split up and use a SunStat relay or an additional thermostat to carry part of the system. Please note: Using an additional thermostat will require another floor sensor for it to work with.
  2. Another heat source may be creating additional heat that is pushing the control past its internal temperature limit. Is there a lamp, space heater, heat duct, or some other heat source close to the control? Can direct sunlight reach the control?
    • Try to remove any external heat sources in close proximity to the control.
  3. The control may not have adequate ventilation to dissipate the heat it generates.
    • SunTouch controls should not be installed inside cabinets. Cabinets are generally not well ventilated, which can cause too much heat to build up inside the control. The control should not be covered by heavy drapes or anything of a similar nature that prevents the control from dissipating heat.
  4. If a 120-volt system was wired to 240-volt power, serious overheating within the floor warming cable as well as the control will occur, causing much higher amp draw and wire temperature than the 120V floor warming cables are designed for.
    • Black and white power leads (with a ground wire) indicate a 120V cable.
    • Black and blue power leads (with a ground wire) indicate a 240V cable.
  5. Turning the control off and back on with the switch on the control will not clear all error codes.

Note: After making certain types of changes to the system or the control, you may need to turn off the power to the control at the breaker panel and then turn it back on to make the control go through a full “restart” in order to clear some of the error codes.

Error 7:

The error 7 code means that the thermostat has reached the end of its life and needs to be replaced.

The warranty on the thermostat is 3 years. If it has been less than 3 years since the date of purchase, contact the distributor you purchased from and they can get you a replacement.

If you bought from us just call us at 1-866-558-3369 with your original order number and we can get you a replacement. If it has been more than 3 years from the date of purchase you’ll need to buy a new one.

If the error code is not listed above, please refer to the proper installation manual.

Control shows a GFCI trip

  1. Try turning off the control and turning it back on again to reset the GFCI.
  2. If the GFCI trips again, the control may not be wired properly. Please refer to the wiring diagram on the back of control.
    • “Line side” wires connect to the power supply coming from the breaker panel.
    • “Load side” wires connect to the floor warming system’s power lead wires.
  3. The floor warming cable may have a short to ground, which will cause a GFCI trip.
    • Disconnect the system’s power leads from the control. Use a digital multimeter to test for a short to ground or short circuit. If you detect a short circuit to the ground wire, contact the manufacturer before trying to locate the damage or make a repair.
  4. If the GFCI does not trip immediately when it starts delivering power to the floor, the system may have a “GFCI conflict” with a component in the power supply circuit or a device that shares this power supply circuit with the floor warming system.
    • Some electric motors and other electrical devices can cause nuisance GFCI trips when nothing is wrong with the floor warming system. Try to determine if the GFCI trip of the control happens at the same time something else in the home has just turned on. Whenever possible, we recommend using a dedicated circuit to provide power for a floor warming system to avoid most GFCI trip problems.

The floor temperature sensor does not seem to be working properly

The floor sensor may be damaged or may not be in the proper location with the sensor tip placed halfway between heating wires. Installing a new sensor is typically easier than moving or repairing the existing sensor.

  1. Try temporarily hooking up a new sensor to the control. The sensor can be left hanging in the air for this test. If it seems to give the control a better signal to work with, you’ll have to determine which of the following two options might work better for your installation.
    • It may be easiest to install a new sensor in a grout seam. Avoid placing a sensor above a floor warming cable or too close to a floor warming cable, which often causes the system to “short cycle” and the floor to not warm up in a normal fashion.
    • A new sensor can be installed from below the floor if you have access to that space.
  2. Verify that there is only one sensor connected to the control. Only one floor sensor can be wired to the control at a time.
  3. The floor sensor may be damaged. Test it with your digital multimeter.
  4. A floor sensor can only be tested after disconnecting it from the control. If your digital multimeter has more than one setting for ohms, it will need to be set to the 20k Ω scale (20,000 ohms) or your meter’s nearest equivalent.
    • The sensor should measure about 7k ohms at 91°F (33 C), or about 10k ohms at 77°F (25°C), or up to approximately 20k ohms at 48°F (9°C). If your sensor is not within calibration for the present floor temperature, it will need to be replaced.

If the issue is not listed above, please refer to the proper installation manual.

    • we had an error saying “relay welded.” We reset the GFCI and then got an error saying “GFCI Tripped.” we reset again, pressed reset, and nothing happened. Any thoughts?

    • Hello TP
Unfortunately, the RELAY WELDED message means the thermostat is at the end of its life and requires replacement.
Fortunately, the new models are even easier to use and replacement is simple.

  • New construction home had to replace control because un able to change program and wouldn’t keep time. When it did work the temp was consistent, all the time. Replaced controller and now heat fluctuates, strugglers to keep up, and there are cool spots. Any idea why?

      Hi Brian,

If there are multiple cables connected to the same thermostat, it could be that one or more cables were not re-wired to the new thermostat unit.

Check any connections at the back of the thermostat and make sure none are loose.

Feel free to call us directly and we can better assist you over the phone.

    Hello there,
I have a SunTouch SunStat Non-Programmable Dial Control and the system has been working fine until recently. When turning on the thermostat, it immediately starts to make a “clicking noise”. The clicking sounds like a blinker from a car. The noise continues until you either shut off the thermostat or if you press the GFCI button on the side and then it stops but the light stays red on the side. Any help into this matter would greatly be appreciated it.

Have a SunTouch thermostat (Command?) installed in 2004 for bathroom. It is set to 80F but won’t go beyond 65F. No error shown…just stopped heating.

  • The “clips” on the mounting panel of the thermostat are damaged and do not allow for a tight connection of the faceplate to the back and in turn the thermostat does not stay powered on.
The thermostat I have is the one pictured on the very far left on the top of this page. Do you sell replacement parts for the mounting panel?
    Thanks
    Elizabeth

    • matthew@warmyourfloor.com says:

      Hi Elizabeth,

You won’t be able to purchase just those mounting parts, unfortunately.

You will need to purchase a new thermostat altogether.

Feel free to contact us if you have any other questions.

  • Charlotte Hensley says:

We recently had to replace a 12 year old Sun Touch thermostat with a SunStat Command model 500850-SB. Size of the room required a relay, which we never knew what the additional control was until now. After my husband installed the new thermostat only half the approx 500 sq ft floor is heating. Can you tell me if the old Sun Touch D-1 relay is compatible with the new 500850-SB thermostatic does this sound like another issue?

  • I have a SunTouch Thermostat that was working great until about a week ago.
I have the morning floor temperature set at 85, but the floor never reaches that temp. It perpetually says “Heating” and “85” as the setpoint, but the floor never warms beyond 79 or 80 degrees.
Is this a problem with the thermostat?
As I said it was working well for quite some time.

    • matthew@warmyourfloor.com says:

      Hi Scott,

How old is your thermostat? Anything between 5-8 years old and it may just need to be replaced.

Did the temperature ever reach 85 degrees before?

You may also want to check the sensor wire connections to make sure everything is secure and not causing mis-readings.

  • I have a system that’s pretty dated. The red light on top of the thermostat comes on now almost daily. I reset the breaker and the floor then works for a while but a day or so later it isn’t working. Any thoughts?

  • Our thermostat simply says SunTouch on it. Radiant heating was installed within the last 2 years by the contrator who remodeled the house; he left no information on the system. It has been working great the entire time. All of a sudden there is no warmth in the floor and the thermostat is completely off. I’ve pushed the test and the reset buttons separately and nothing happened. I checked the circuit breaker and it hadn’t tripped. I the turned the circuit breaker to “off” and then back on and nothing happened. What should I do next?

  • The display says floor sensor error – I notified the electrician and he said he did not install the floor heat components only the power circuit and control thermostat. The floor probe was omitted. I am sure you are going to say that is not the proper installation however should it run anyway?

    • Hi Sheila – Floor sensor installation is the ideal installation.

But, the COMMAND thermostat has a ROOM mode, which uses a sensor built-in the the T-stat
      Settings>> Control
      • The ‘control’ setting determines whether the thermostat
will operate to maintain a floor temperature, or the room
      temperature.

    • matthew@warmyourfloor.com says:

      Hi Sheila,

Because the sensor was not installed you’ll need to change the control setting on the thermostat now.

Click the gear icon in the bottom left on the main screen.

Go to Setup, then to Control. Change the control to Room.

The thermostat will now operate based on the ambient air temperature in the room.

Let us know if you have any other questions.

      Thank you, Sheila!

  • I have thermostat with no window just gif button and temperature dial and on / off switch
I turn ot on green light flashes stays on I turn dial to heat yellow light turns on as heating, then about 30 seconds it turns off.
Turning on and off does nothing.
I need to remove control to get it to do same thing then off after 15 to 30 seconds??

    • matthew@warmyourfloor.com says:

  • Keith Harrison says:

I just replace my 13 year old SunTouch 500650, which was working fine, with a new SunStat touchscreen thermostat. It looks great and is much easier to use.

I’ve connected the new thermostat to my WiFi network, but it will not register the device and provide a code to use in the app. The error message received is, “Attempt to contact network failed. Please press OK and try again.” I’ve tried dozens of times to no avail. I see the MAC address of the thermostat in my router devices list. Please help.

    • matthew@warmyourfloor.com says:

      Hi Keith,

This sounds like an issue SunTouch will need to resolve with you since this is related to their app for the SunStat Connect.

  • My Thermostat is only 5 years old and is saying Err7. Do I really need to replace it? It was working fine last winter, I just took it out of “hold temp” mode for the summer, and I’m getting that error. Pretty short lifespan for an expensive product.

  • Our SunTouch Command thermostat is just over three years old. We turned the heat off for the summer. A few weeks ago, we attempted to turn the system back on. It will not heat at all. There is no error code. All of the displays on the thermostat appear to be working. The display says “Heating,” but the system is not heating. We have reviewed the manual, checked this site, and tried resetting the circuit breaker and the GFCI. However, the system consistently reverts to “Temporary Hold” and we get no heat. Please help!

  • Hello — I have installed several Sun Touch floors and the controller works great — but I can’t seem to change the Temporary Hold in hours. For example, right now, I just wanted to heat up one floor section for a few hours and the temporary hold is set for 21 friggen hours. The touch screen doesn’t seem to have an option for adjusting this on any of my controllers. HELP!!!

  • I have a SunTouch SunStat programmable thermostat heating my kitchen floor. The system was installed in 2008. This particular thermostat will not heat the floor past 73 degrees, and if I set it higher, it defaults down to 69. This is the fourth thermostat in 9 years. Earlier thermostats have heated the floor to 78, then failed within 2 years. When I called SunTouch when the last one failed, they said that the problem is my basement below the floor being too great a temperature differential. They said these systems are designed to heat about 10 degrees above the ambient temperature in the floor below, and I should insulate the ceiling below my basement. I’ve researched this, and can find nothing to corroborate such a claim. Any ideas as to what it can be?

    • matthew@warmyourfloor.com says:

      Hi Katherine,

SunTouch is the manufacturer of the thermostats you’ve been using so I would trust that their information is correct.

If the temperature difference between the basement below and the heated floor above is significant, it could absolutely be affecting the system’s ability to maintain the set temperature.

So if you were to insulate the basement ceiling, it should help prevent heat loss to your floor, and allow the system to maintain the set temperature better.

  • Jon Schwanz says:

I have a 3 year old Sun Touch/Sun Stat (Superior Pro-Heat) programmable thermostat Model 031530 that is currently reading only the time on its face, no temperatures. I can’t tell if the floor is heating because it is summer. Upon viewing the User’s manual to examine the trouble shooting area, it is not a covered topic. Any ideas on where to go from here?

    • matthew@warmyourfloor.com says:

      Hi Jon,

      Thank you for contacting us!

Try turning the breaker off for 1 min, then back on, then turn the thermostat back on. If that doesn’t work, you can try to reset the thermostat.

Or, just upgrade to the new Touchscreen or WiFi TouchScreen

Thermostats ship same day for arrival in 1-3 days.

      Thank you, Jon!

    • matthew@warmyourfloor.com says:

      Hi Jon,

It sounds like the display on the thermostat has stopped functioning.

You could try turning the breaker off for a minute then back on and see if that resets it to normal.

Otherwise I’d recommend you contact SunTouch directly at 888-432-8932 to troubleshoot this.

  • Beth Hooker says:

My unit was installed in 2010. It was working perfectly and cannot find any error numbers but floor is cold last 2 days! When I press the GFCI it lights up and doesn’t go out. Does that mean anything?
It is set for 79 degrees on all 4 schedules but is 65 now and I can’t get it to come up.
I have the SunStat Pro Model 500670. Any suggestions? I’m spoiled now.
    Thank you, Beth

    • matthew@warmyourfloor.com says:

      Hi Beth,

This sounds like the thermostat has just reached the end of its life and needs to be replaced.

The thermostats last an average of 5-8 years so that’s likely what has happened, especially since the floor has been working this whole time.

You can try turning the breaker off for a minute and turning it back on, that usually fixes GFI issues like this.

You can also make sure no wires came loose behind the thermostat as well.

Last option would be to check the resistance of the heating element in the floor to make sure it’s not causing the GFI trips.

If you do that and still have GFI trips, you likely just need to replace the thermostat.

  • Tad Nelson says:

Sun touch system has been installed for about a year now. Floor heat is working well but the thermostat screen has an intermittent flicker. If I touch the screen the flicker slowly goes away and the image remain constant. Any ideas?

    • matthew@warmyourfloor.com says:

      Hi Tad,

Take the face plate off and make sure there aren’t any bent or damaged pins behind the screen.

If the screen is loose or not coming in full contact with the back plate, that could explain why pressure from touching it makes it go away briefly.

Give that a try and see if that fixes the problem.

  • Vernon Britton says:

Hmmm. We moved into a brand new home three years plus one month ago. The floor heat has worked quite well but, now, following a short power outage, the settings we all lost. Is there a replaceable battery. We have really enjoyed the warm floors.

    • matthew@warmyourfloor.com says:

      Hi Vernon,

There is no battery, the thermostat is powered directly from the breaker.

Try turning your breaker off for a minute then back on, that usually solves these types of issues.

  • Can I extend the sensor wires at a junction box if I want to put the sensor farther away from the thermostat? can I extend the other wires if I wish as well? Just to change the location of the thermostat after the mats are covered by mortar and tile? Thanks for your help.

    • matthew@warmyourfloor.com says:

      Hi James,

Yes, you can extend the sensor wire and the power leads from a junction box.

Make the appropriate connection in the junction box using romex cable to extend the wires through the wall to the new thermostat location.

If you have any additional questions please let us know.

      Thank you, James!

  • We have a Sunstat Pro 11 Model 500775 in our Master Bathroom. It was intalled in 2012…so 8 years ago. It is displaying Err3 and the floor won’t heat. I went online to buy a new thermostat but that model is no longer available. What is the model we should buy to replace?

  • Norm trudel says:

I get a CF1 or gf1 code on my suntouch. It wAs working great for two years. When I reset the thermostat it takes 30 secondes to reset again with the same code. What can be my problem , I tried another thermostat and same issue….

    Thanks

    • matthew@warmyourfloor.com says:

      Hi Norm,

Normally we’d be a little concerned that the GFI is tripping because something may be damaged under the floor.

Since this has been working for two years, that is probably not the case but it is odd that another thermostat came up with the same issue.

Try turning the breaker off for a minute then back on, that usually fixes these GFI trip issues.

Also make sure a connection behind the thermostat did not come loose.

If you swapped just the face plates of the thermostats, a loose wire in the back would explain why you had the same issue on the new thermostat.

  • Janine Markowski says:

Installed quite some time ago so have an older model. The only indicator on our model is a red light that shows the floor is heating, a GFI test button, an on/off push button and the dial to turn the heat up or down. The red light is on and indicates there is power and when you turn the dial you hear a click which should indicate that the heating element has turned on but yet we have no heat. Obviously there is electricity getting to it. We have pushed the GFI test button and then the GFI indicator lights up red. What can the problem can and is there other troubleshooting that can be done?

    • matthew@warmyourfloor.com says:

      Hi Janine,

This sounds like the thermostat has simply reached the end of its life and needs to be replaced.

You can try turning the breaker off for a minute then back on and that usually resets the GFI.

If that does not work you likely just need to get a new thermostat.

You can see the full list of thermostats on our website here: https://kc.warmyourfloor.com/thermostats/floor-heating.html

  • Have a older sun touch thermostat (dial) as soon as it is turned on it trips the gfi. I unhooked the load black wire and it does not trip. Option??? Thanks

  • Installed SunTouch about two months ago. Have had no problems until about two weeks ago. Getting the GFCI tripped. Reset it a couple of times. Removed power to the circuit. It has its own circuit. Still a problem.

    • matthew@warmyourfloor.com says:

      Hi Eric,

This could indicate there is a break in the floor or a connection is loose.

Always turn off power to the breaker before checking any connections.

Check the connections behind the thermostat and perform a resistance test on the heating element using an ohm-meter.

If that does not fix your issue, contact SunTouch at 888-432-8932 to troubleshoot this with their tech support.

Let us know if you need anything else.

      Thank you!

  • Need some help. I have two controllers on a 20 amp circuit. One of the controllers gfi trips out, same one each time. It resets and runs for a period of time then when I randomly walk by it is tripped. What could be the issue? Appreciate any help.

  • Brian Hochheimer says:

Installation in our summer cabin (making it year round) was 7 years ago. Has performed flawlessly to date. Now the GFCI keeps tripping in one zone. Other three zones work fine.

Have reset the circuit (dedicated to this zone)
Have turned unit on and off.
Has worked up to temp of 66 degrees before tripping.

  • My sun touch system is only a year old. The thermostat work fine. Tested ohms and voltage in and out.

There is now heat in the line at all. Anywhere. I’d it had a break in the like wouldn’t it have heat up to the break.

Have there been any issues with the insulated line from the stat to the heated wire?

    • matthew@warmyourfloor.com says:

      Jason,

If there is a break in the heating cable, it would simply not heat at all.

But if you’ve done a resistance test and the ohm readings came back correct then the heating element is not the issue.

It could also be as simple as a loose connection at the back of the stat.

Check the connections at the back first to see if anything is loose.

If you’re still having trouble, then the thermostat could be defective.

Contact SunTouch at 888-432-8932 to submit a warranty claim for a defective unit.

  • My old Sunstat floor thermostat dies (error 7) a few days ago, so I replaced it with the new one with the big touchscreen. The wires are connected, the floor sensor is functioning properly, the thermostat is showing that it has power and it’s programmed, but the floor isn’t heating up. Help?????!!!

    • matthew@warmyourfloor.com says:

      Hi Andrea,

This sounds like a connection issue where the heating wires may not be in the proper terminals.

Double-check that you have all the connections at the back of the unit in the right terminals.

If that does not fix the problem, please call us at 866-558-3369 so we can better assist you.

      Thank you!

  • I have a new floor heating system in a new house(only 8 months in use). Two separate mats in two parts of my bathroom (in shower and outside of shower). I am seeing gfi faults on one of the controllers. It is the same controller each time. Some times a trip happens days apart some times it happens multiple times in a day. Both units are in the same 20 amp breaker. Any idea what the source of the issue is and how to correct? Thank you

    • matthew@warmyourfloor.com says:

      Tony,

If you have multiple thermostats on one circuit then I believe that is your issue.

Each thermostat needs to be on its own dedicated 20 amp breaker.

If you have two thermostats on one 20 amp breaker, then those need to be split into two separate circuits and breakers.

Last week I got an err. 7: end of life message on our Sunstat themostat. We reset the thermostat and reset the breaker (it was not tripped). Same error message appeared. Five days later, the message disappeared and the floor heating is working again. Any ideas on why? Should we go ahead and replace the thermostat anyway?

    • matthew@warmyourfloor.com says:

      Hi Lucy,

The error 7 message indicates the thermostat needs to be replaced.

If it continues to have problems then we would recommend replacing it at this time.

You can purchase a new thermostat HERE

  • Hi I have a non-programmable SunStat Core thermostat model 108201 or 108202 or 108203.

When I first put the control on I read 98F. But the entire room was at 72F. When I pushed the down arrow It showed 76F.

I switch the breaker on/off and turn the control on again. Same 98F.

What can I do to troubleshoot it?

    • matthew@warmyourfloor.com says:

      Mario,

This sounds like it could be an issue with the sensor probe not reading the temperature correctly.

Check the connections at the sensor terminals and make sure they’re in tight.

If you continue to have trouble, give us a call at 866-558-3369 and we can assist you better.

      Thank you, Mario!

  • Our thermostat is giving the message of floor sensor error. What does this mean and is there a way to fix it? I tripped the GFCI and reset it and still getting that message.

    • matthew@warmyourfloor.com says:

      Hello,

This indicates the sensor is either damaged or the connection at the sensor terminals behind the thermostat have come loose.

Check the connections and make sure they are secure.

If that is not the issue you may have to replace the sensor probe or turn the thermostat to “Air Mode”.

  • Abby Phillips says:

my sun touch controller is not heating the floor any longer. Tried turning off and then on the circuit breaker. It says it is heating, but never does. Please help.

    • matthew@warmyourfloor.com says:

      Hi Abby,

If you’re not getting any heat at all then make sure all connections on the load side terminals are secured.

If you still don’t get heat, you’ll want to verify the heating element in the floor is functioning by having an electrician perform a resistance test on the heating cable.

You can always contact SunTouch directly at 888-432-8932 to troubleshoot further as well.

  • Just contractor installed sun touch floor warmer and thermostat while timing bathroom. After an hour of having on, there is no heat whatsoever. How long should it take to feel heat in a tiled floor? I have the non programmable thermostat- should I leave it on low throughout the winter here in SW Ohio ?

    • matthew@warmyourfloor.com says:

      Hi Julia,

The system takes about 30-60 minutes to heat a floor usually.

If you’re not getting any heat at all then make sure all connections on the load side terminals are secured.

If you still don’t get heat, you’ll want to verify the heating element in the floor is functioning by having an electrician perform a resistance test on the heating cable.

You can always contact SunTouch directly at 888-432-8932 to troubleshoot as well.

  • Victor Olvera says:

i just installed a Model# 107903 and the sensor read 90 degrees when is off, so to heat my floor i have to set it at 98 degrees and the max is 99 degrees

    • matthew@warmyourfloor.com says:

      Victor,

I am not familiar with that model number but you may need to check that your thermostat is set to “floor mode” and not “air mode”.

Also, make sure there are no vents or anything that may make the area where the sensor is located hotter than the rest of the floor.

If all else fails, contact the manufacturer to troubleshoot the issue.

  • We have a brand new install but the temperature never reaches the set point. I have double checked all of the connections which look fine. The floor is warming to around 74 degrees but never reaches the set point of 80 degrees. Any ideas?

    • matthew@warmyourfloor.com says:

      Hi Andy,

Setting the temperature on the thermostat does not always mean the floor will actually get to that temperature.

Every installation is different and depending on how much heat loss you experience will affect how hot the floor can actually get.

It sounds like in your case the 74 degrees may be as hot as your floor can get.

  • Stef Christensen says:

We have a GFCI SunTouch bathroom floor heater. Last year the area lost power for 5 days. Have not been able to get heater restarted. We have error code 1, 6 and others. It was here when we bought house 2 years ago. Seller said bathroom was remodeled 2012. Is it time for a new thermo and which one?

    • matthew@warmyourfloor.com says:

      Hi Stef,

Resetting the breaker after a power outage usually fixes this problem for you.

If that does not fix the issue, contact SunTouch to troubleshoot this.

You can contact SunTouch at 888-432-8932.

  • We have the SunTouch Command Model 500850 and recently the schedule keeps resetting for no apparent reason and when I go back to reprogram the schedule all the days are unchecked and the times and temperatures are all changed. I am not getting any error messages and the floor still heats up.

    • matthew@warmyourfloor.com says:

      Hi Justin,

Go to the schedule screen and click on the individual options( wake or leave) and make sure each option is set to “On” and not “Skip”.

This is likely the reason the thermostat is not following the schedule.

If you continue to have trouble, contact SunTouch at 888-432-8932.

  • I can not control my thermostat and it shows hold and lock under hold. The floor is warm, I just can’t turn it up or down. How do I unlock so I can adjust?

    • matthew@warmyourfloor.com says:

      Hi Heidi,

How to change this varies with each thermostat model.

There should be an option in set-up to remove the hold.

If you can tell us which model you have I can assist further.

      Thank you!

  • Hello. I’ve got a newly installed sun touch system. Everything seems to be working as it should other than the floor doesn’t heat and the thermostat never shows a change. It kicks on, sends power to the load, and has no errors or faults. Just wont heat up.

    • matthew@warmyourfloor.com says:

      Hi James,

Sounds like a connection on the load side may be loose behind the thermostat.

I would recommend checking those connections first and making sure everything is secured.

If the connections are good, you want to get an ohm meter and check the electrical resistance of the load.

SunTouch always puts the expected resistance range on the power lead so you can verify the resistance is correct.

The resistance test will tell you if the load is functioning properly.

  • Dave Thompson says:

We had a SunTouch SunStat PRO II Programmable Thermostat LCD installed about 5 years ago. It has worked well.

Over the years, the breaker associated with this circuit has started to trip. We can’t attribute these breaker trips to anything specific (e.g. time of day, day of week, when we have other electrical loads, etc…). Sometimes the breaker will trip twice in a day. Other times it will not trip for a week. But it will trip sooner or later.

The flooring company that installed this is now out of business. I’ve also talked to a couple of electricians and they’re not interested in looking at it. Do you have any suggestions on who can help in the Portland, Oregon area?

    • matthew@warmyourfloor.com says:

      Hi Dave,

While I can’t assist you with finding a contractor in your area, I can tell you that based on what you’ve told me, it sounds like the thermostat needs to be replaced.

The typical lifespan averages around 5-8 years. So it is likely you just need to replace the thermostat.

Any current SunTouch thermostat will work as a replacement for the Pro II. You can see all the SunTouch thermostats HERE.

Once you have the new unit, any electrician will be able to install it for you.

Let us know if you need anything else. Thank you, Dave!

  • Gregory K Dedinsky says:

turned the thermostat down in the spring. now that fall is here reset schedule for warm floor. the thermostat seems to be reading the floor temp and the air temp . no heat. thermostat only 3 years old. out of ideas, need help

    • matthew@warmyourfloor.com says:

      Hi Gregory,

Try resetting the breaker to do a hard reset on the thermostat.

If that doesn’t work then check the manual for how to change the heating mode from “Room” to “Floor”

If you have the floor sensor installed, then you want it set to “Floor”.

If you did not install the floor sensor, then you want it set to “Room”.

And if none of those options fix your issue, then your thermostat may simply need to be replaced.

You can see the replacement model on our website HERE.

You can order directly from our website or give us a call us at 866-558-3369.

      Thank you, Gregory!

    • matthew@warmyourfloor.com says:

      Hi Matt,

A relay welded error message typically means the mechanical relay inside the thermostat is no longer functioning.

If you don’t have enough air space in the electrical box, heat can build up and cause this issue for the thermostat.

Or if the thermostat is a bit older, it could be that the mechanical relay just stop working after so long.

I would advise you to contact the manufacturer of your thermostat to troubleshoot this issue.

If needed you can purchase a thermostat from us. You can see the models we carry HERE.

Let me know if you need anything else. Thank you!

  • We turned off our Sun Touch last spring. When we “touched” the screen to turn it on last night it did absolutely nothing.
    No light, no power.

    • Mike,

We suggest resetting the breaker to the system and that will typically reset the thermostat for you.

If that does not work, there is the possibility the thermostat is simply at the end of its life and needs to be replaced.

If the thermostat is older than five years old, that may be the case for you.

  • We have radiant floor heating in our bathroom, and it has been there since moving in 3 years ago (I’m guessing at 4-5 years old).

It seems to show up the correct floor temperature and says “heating” but it is not bringing the temperature up to the desired temp.

There have been no changes to the bathroom tiles at all. What are my troubleshooting steps?

We have a SunTouch SunStat Command Programmable Thermostat

    • Hi Ben,

The thermostats typically last about 5-8 years on average.

You can try resetting the breaker to the system to reset it.

But it sounds like your thermostat has reached the end of its life and needs to be replaced.

You can purchase another Command directly from our website HERE.

  • We did some remodeling and removed and re-installed the thermostat (looks like the picture of SKU#500775 on the web page) now it has an error 3. What does this mean?
    Thanx, Jerry

    • matthew@warmyourfloor.com says:

      Hi Jerry,

Per the manual for the 500775, the error 3 message means that the floor sensor may not be connected.

Check the sensor connections and make sure the connection is secured.

Once you’ve secured the sensor connections, reset the breaker to the system.

  • Julie Schull says:

I get Err7: End-of-life and I just had this system put in 6 years ago. Do I need to replace the control and if so with what? And do you know anyone in my area that can do that. I live in Laguna Niguel, CA.

    • matthew@warmyourfloor.com says:

      Hi Julie,

The error 7 message does mean that you need to get a new thermostat.

Give us a call at 866-558-3369 to place an order and we can give you some information on getting it installed as well.

      Thank you!

  • We have this radiant floor in our guest bathroom. It has been in place 4 years. We are unable to modify the floor heat. We do not have an instruction booklet and pushing the up or down arrows make no difference. The controls light up when we touch it but we are unable to change. Any settings. It says lock but we don.t know how to unlock the settings so we can change the heat.

    • What is the operating voltage range for the sunstat. One of my 120 volt legs measures 107 volts. The system is a 120 volt system.

    • Darien Roseen says:

I have the same problem. If you have found a solution, please let me know what it is. I can’t turn the heat down or off, and I believe the thermostat is set for Colorado winter conditions. Since it is now 95 degrees outside the house, the room is very uncomfortable. My thermostat is an old one (500650), but I don’t want to replace it unless necessary. Thank you for your support.

    • matthew@warmyourfloor.com says:

      Hi Darien,

You should be able to adjust the temperature and turn it down until the system simply stops heating.

If you can not adjust the temperature, it may mean your thermostat unit needs to be replaced.

Contact the manufacturer at 888-432-8932 to troubleshoot your thermostat.
